41 www.ceotodaymagazine.com CEO Today United Kingdom Awards 2019 CHARITY PAT EDWARDS CEO of NEWTEC ORGANISATION PROFILE Newham Training and Education Centre (NEWTEC) is an award winning charity organisation, serving the community for over 35 years. From its conception, NEWTEC has continually adapted its provision and offer to meet the ever-changing government policies. NEWTEC offers exceptional vocational training opportunities and high quality registered day care nursery facilities in Stratford and East London. NEWTEC is well positioned to provide training and employment opportunities for the three East London boroughs: Barking and Dagenham Tower Hamlets and Newham. Newham is one of the most diverse boroughs in the country. NEWTEC supports young people and adults, many of whom are vulnerable and disadvantaged owing to issues including cultural barriers, being disabled, having a learning disability or a mental health condition. Our services are educational/training focused, supporting young people/adults to gain confidence, improve their educational attainment, acquire new skills, volunteer, move towards and gain employment and support community cohesion. NEWTEC’s approach is to identify those hardest to reach and not in education, employment or training and provide them with training/ education, and gaining a qualification. NEWTEC’s mission emphasises the importance of a variety of services in realising the overall purpose of the charity: “All our children will be happy, healthy & safe, and supported by well qualified and economically active parents and carers”, and “to provide the highest quality childcare services and vocational training in care for young people, adults and employers.” ABOUT PAT EDWARDS Pat is currently the Chief Executive of NEWTEC, an East London charity, engaged in the delivery of employment related programmes for young people, adults and employers, and the management of a chain of early years settings. His previous roles have included being an Executive Director within a national Homeless Housing Association – providing job opportunities to a range of excluded individuals. Pat started his teaching career as a Lecturer in Design and Construction Technology, and then progressed to a Vice Principal at a large North London Further Education College. Pat also worked for two large London based local authorities as a Building Surveyor and Building Engineer. He started his career as a Designer at a medium sized construction company, providing design solutions to blue chip companies, after completing his apprenticeship in Architectural Metal work. Pat is a product of the Further Education sector and has graduated with an MBA and an MA in Management Practice. Pat is also a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Building; a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers and a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Further Education. In addition, Pat is a Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London. Pat is passionate about providing innovative learning solutions to engage the most disadvantaged individuals in society to inspire their desire.
